Ballet in our little Chaco

A few weeks ago, my SIL called and asked if I wanted join her in going to the neighboring town to watch my niece in a show that she was performing in. My niece has taken ballet lessons for 7 years now and I had never seen her perform before. There is a dancing school in Filadelfia that teaches many different kinds of dances.
I was surprised at the variety that was presented and it was a great evening.

There was a string orchestra that played not just classical, but also pop and other popular music.
Then there was ballet. I love it and have not been to a real ballet since we lived in Canada.

I love how the little ones joined in. The little girl in the middle (with the arms down) was just the cutest.

Then there was "Danza Paraguaya". These are typical Paraguayan dances.

And last but not least there were German dances. Since our ancestors are German this dance was very popular and many people were clapping along.

Just so you get a taste of one Paraguayan dance I included a short clip.

I was very proud of my niece and next time she performs I will be there again.

Having two left feet, I always enjoy watching those that can dance gracefully and with what looks like ease. I liked that clip of their dancing, Betty; I bet it was great in person, as well as all the other dances and what a great thing for your niece to be involved with!!

How beautiful!! I love a good ballet, and the traditional dances are so much fun, huh?

VioletSky, those hair pieces are actually glass bottles that balance up there while the dancers do all sorts of moved--a classic Paraguayan dance. I've seen them put 5 up there at a time, stacked on top of each other. It's wild to watch, because the dancer usually ends up on the floor rolling over at some point, all without dropping the bottle off her head!! I've tried it--not easy at ALL! :)

I LOVE ballet! Regardless of the age of the dancers! What a great day! Deanie danced ballet (et al) for over 10 years! I miss those days!

How fun, Betty. The Paraguayan dancers are wonderful. I'm glad you told us about the bottles.

Thanks for elaborating Christie! I misunderstood VioletSky and thought she meant the hair pieces that the girls used in the video.

What a great dance recital!!!!!
I haven't been to a dance performance since your youngest used to take ballet and tap! Sure do miss it. Loved the Paraguayan Dance that you showed a clip of.
That was so nice to see historical dances!

Great to have you on board for the challenge! It doesn't technically start until next monday, at which point I'll put up a linky and get everyone to do intro posts.

The Paraguay dance was nice and so glad you put the clip in, I love to see and learn about other cultures and how they remember their history.

I love the video clip! This reminds me that I left out EJ's first dance recital when updating my blog. Seeing these great dancers, she has a ways to go! :)

I think it is so cool that they teach regional dances. In my area we only seem to have the basic ballet/jazz/tap. My daughters would never take it though. I totally missed out on tutu's.

No worries, the mistake was an easy one to make! Good luck with the challenge you're actually doing :)!
