For us who have an evangelical faith, it´s a day off work and we are enjoying it. I finally went to search for my Christmas tree and found it under some dust and cobwebs. I dusted it all off and have managed to put it up. Haven´t decorated it yet, but at least it´s standing.
I also made some fudge puddles, which the girls and hubby love.

The city is doing it´s part too. They decorated our main street lights with some beautiful angels and stars.
And then there´s an old telephone tower that is not in use anymore. Someone had the idea to decorate it like a Christmas tree. This tower is 211 meters (692 feet) high, so it´s visible from far away.
I have not seen it myself yet, but here´s a pic from someone´s fb page. I like that people here are finally getting into the spirit of decorating more with lights for Christmas.
This week has been really busy. It started off with our work Christmas dinner on Monday night. Then I had to go to Asuncion on Tuesday for a training course for my work. This was supposed to be held by the government. When we got there we went for some lunch and around 2 pm the course was supposed to start. When we arrived at the destination where the training was supposed to be held, there was some other event going on and they just informed us, that the date of our course had been changed to the 14th. We should come then!!! We saw other people arrive and leave and no one had received any notification!!
UN believable. But NOT surprising....
So we had to drive back home (4 1/2 hours one way).
In the evening when I got home I helped my sister get my parents clothes and things ready, because the next day (yesterday) my parents moved into the retirement home.
Since we are all members of a Coop we have private hospitals, schools and retirement homes. This means much better care for our elders, than is normal in this country. The employees all speak German and the people who live there are well taken care of. The only thing that would hold people off, from wanting to live there is that they have to admit that they are not as strong as they think they are. My dad is ok with it now. (I think) He has given in and admitted that they can help him to become stronger better there. My mom was still not very happy, but had to concede, that if dad was living there she would move with him. We are doing everything for them to make the move easier and less stressful. We hope and pray that they will come to like it there.
To put their mind at ease, with what will happen to their house, Michelle will be living there in the mean time.
She will keep an eye on things and water their plants and so on. They were happy about that and we hope that after a few months they will be stronger and can move home again. Time will tell.
For now things should be a bit easier and we are thankful for that.
And we have an empty house again, at least for a little while.
This much for now. Hope you all have a great Thursday.

Good that you have the day off today, Betty, to get some things done and to also rest. I would not have been happy about that trip for training to turn out the way it did! That is many hours of travel, as you do know, only to have to repeat it next week.
Wise about your parents going into the retirement home. It sounds like a good one too. And I like that Michelle will be at their house; I am sure they are relieved to know someone they love and trust will be watching out over their stuff. I do hope they can return to it one day when your dad gets his strength back, etc.
Enjoy the day today!

It is hard to know how best to help our aging parents but it sounds like you have found something good. I love the angels on the street and I need to know what a fudge puddle is because that sounds so amazing!
I never heard of fudge puddles. What is it?
That is the pits about the long drive for nothing!!!
The decorations in the city look great...makes you feel in the spirit (o:
That is good news about your parents. I like the idea of a co-op and the way they will be taken care of. Wish we had good answers for rich's parents.
I am going to look up the recipe for those fudge puddles. They look great.
Fudge puddles - oh my! I'm sold!
So glad your parents are moving to the retirement home. Doubly glad you are members of something that will assure their good care! I love those angels on the light poles! And the tall Christmas tree! So festive!
Glad to hear that things are working out so well with your parents. The fudge puddles sound so good!
Oh, Betty, I'm happy with you that your parents have made the decision to receive more help. It is a humbling experience, especially if one is a staunch and fiercely independent German, LOL!! I'm glad that Michelle is living in their house - that does mean so much!! I can feel with them!
So pretty to see your street decorated with lights! Love the name of your sweets - fudge puddles!! Enjoy!
I'm glad your father agreed he needed help and your mom wants to be with him. It sounds like a nice retirement home.
4 1/2 hour drive and they don't tell anyone the class is postponed? That is really too bad. Your fudge puddles look delicious.
I am so relieved to hear this, Betty. I know how you all have been worried about this.
Having Michelle live there is very smart. Your parents will be happy with that arrangement. Fudge puddles sound delicious! I haven't yet started my Christmas baking, except for the Christstollen (I have to make more, we keep eating it). It is hard to keep the boys from eating all the cookies before Christmas!
That long of a drive? I'd be livid!
FUDGE PUDDLES?!!!!
That is, hands down, the best thing I've heard all day. Where have I been that I've not heard of this before?

p.s. I hope your parents transition is a smooth one. Not an easy thing, I know...
I know this is a hard transition for all involved with your parents. It sounds like everyone is really looking positively at the situation. I hope they grow stronger with the temporary support and can return home in the New Year.
Would love to know the recipe for those cookies.
Such good news about your parents, Betty. I know that is a huge relief for you. I hope it really works out well for them.
It sounds like you are getting full of the spirit of the season. The Fudge Puddles look so good...I may have to give the recipe to my designated Christmas bakers, that is, my daughters.
Hi Betty-- You had me at Fudge Puddles. Those look fantastic!
I would have been livid if I'd make the long trip for training and it had been cancelled. Steam would have been coming out of my ears. I yiyi.
i'm sending very best wishes and loads of prayers for your parents. I know how stressful the move will be for everyone and I hope it all goes smoothly for them.
xo jj
Fudge puddles sound yummy!
I hope your parents have a good transition into their new home.
It was so cool to run into you the other day. Too bad we didn't know about your event being postponed, or we could have chatted a bit longer. Now off to try cooking some fudge puddles! (Praying for all as your parents get moved in....)
I am glad your parents will be taken care of and that now they can grow stronger together. It will work out good. And you can have a bit of peace now and enjoy the holiday.
Thank you for sharing your story and the pictures and your life. It is so neat to read your blog and sorta see what's happening in a totally different place in the world.
I hope that you can relax and enjoy the weekend. Take care my friend and God Bless!!
Hi! Love Taste of Home! May have to try Fudge Puddles when I either get to the USA or to Paraguay or else just "mess around" with some of the ingredients! :) Anything with choc. and pea. butter I can go for! Praying for all of you as your parents are transitioning into their new home. I hope they are adjusting. At least it's near enough for visits and at least Michelle will be in their house. Blessings for all.
Camille made a batch of the fudge puddles. I haven't had something so yummy in a while. YUMMMMM! Thanks for putting the link in there, and that tempting photo.
nice post! thank you so much for sharing...blessings...soraya
Oh Betty, had to laugh about the looooong trip to Asuncion only to be told to come back another day :) Sounds like something that would happen here in Argentina too! We once traveled several hours to an air show only to find out it had been postponed. And when we lived in Uganda, it was even worse! hahaha
Es lo que hay :)
So happy to hear you were able to get your parents moved into a nice facility. I've not heard of coops like that here. Maybe it's a uniquely Paraguayan thing.
You are very lucky to have such a great place for your parents. Retirement homes here are terribly expensive. It's scary to get older here.
