1. Chinese New Year will be celebrated on February 10th, and 2013 is the year of the snake. When did you last see a snake? Are you okay around snakes or do they give you the shivers?
I last saw a snake in my front lawn. It was a garden snake and I let it live. I have "respect" for snakes, but they don´t really freak me out. Most people think because we live in the "boonies" we are constantly fighting off snakes, but that´s not so. We rarely see a snake, and if so the cat usually takes care of them.
2. The color red in Chinese culture usually means good luck. Do you believe in luck?
In some ways yes, like if someone ALWAYS wins in draw´s or raffles (I know someone like that). But in other ways I think it´s Gods guidance. So my answer is yes and no.
3. sledding-ice skating-building a snowman...if given a choice, which activity would you choose? Which of the three have you done most recently?
Most recently I´ve done none of these three...hahaha. But I would love to build a snowman, if that were possible. :)
4. Ralph Waldo Emerson is credited as saying, "The years teach much which the days never knew." Where have you seen this quote played out in your own life?
With my worrying. When you are right in the "middle of it" you don´t see how futile it is, that it only makes you more miserable. And later on when the years have past you can look back and think "WHY did you worry so? What good did it bring you?"
5. When was the last time you ate a cupcake?
I can´t even remember it.
6. What's something you can't say no to?
My daughters.
7. Are you a doodler?
No.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
I am cleaning out the closets of my home today. LOT´s of stuff going to the Second Hand or donation, I can feel it. I need to make room for our guest that is arriving on the weekend. Hopefully I´ll find the blanket I´m missing. It seems every time I have a pair of blankets one of them goes missing...like socks. lol

Glad to have you answer the questions again. Cleaning closets is not my forte
So happy to see you in the Hodgepodge! Nothing like houseguests to inspire some serious housecleaning : )
It's great to have you joining us again!
When you're done cleaning out, feel free to come help me :) I'm a procrastinator when it comes to discarding stuff.
I like your answer to #6. I worry too much, and you've given me a good perspective on the futility of it.
I am a worrier-can't help it.
Glad you joined us today...I'm your newest follower! :) I can't say 'no' to my girls, either!
Good for you, Betty, for cleaning out your closets! Lots of excitement coming up over the next few weeks!

I too am a worrier. Drives my daughter nuts. She is such a risk taker, not afraid of anything... no wonder I worry so much.
I try to clean my closets out every few months. We tend to fill them up with things that we don't use, have to clean them out and make room for new stuff.
The ordinary garden snake doesn't freak me out, but a large one would certainly make me beat a hasty retreat to safety. Your CAT takes care of them? Wow - learned something new - I didn't know cats did that! My sister-in-law is so afraid of snakes, she cannot handle seeing a snake-skin purse!!
Love cleaning and decluttering and then keeping it organized. In my little apartment I have a place for everything and then everything in its place - sure saves extra labor hunting for stuff!
I lose blankets in a different way. I use throws in the living room because our 1950s house can be drafty in the winter, and hubby keeps it colder than I like in the summer, so 'm constantly snuggling up in a blanket to read or watch TV, except I have to wrestle a cat to get a blanket! My favorite white blanket with mulch-colored polka dots my husband call's "Carla's Blanket" because it has almost as much black cat fur as white unless it's fresh from the dryer; then it just a few cat hairs!
Hi Betty,
Gosh, I hate snakes! Bugs I can handle, but snakes-- EEK!
But I do love a good cupcake!!! They're very popular here with lots of cupcake (only) bakeries selling them for upwards of $4.00 each! (I make my own so I can "lick the bowl".
Have a great weekend, xo jj
Cleaning out the closets--much scarier than snakes! It's like they explode when you open the door. I'm right there with you! I've given so much away already that I can't believe how much is left!
I don't mind snakes but am definitely not a fan of spiders! I am most definitely a doodler, I always have a pen and paper by the phone and constantly doodle when talking...usually the same things...letters, numbers and a scroll of paper. Not sure what that says about me!
I found your blog when searching for over 40 bloggers. I don't really relate to the 20 & 30 year olds with young families and I'm looking to connect with other bloggers who are, like me, over 40!

There are supposed to be no real snakes in Hawaii except the zoo. I do like it that way. My mother was born in the Year of the Snake, but she really doesn't like snakes at all!
Gosh... I can remember when I had a cupcake either.
We had Chinese food to celebrate Chinese New Years. That was fun.
I'm cleaning out my closets too.... man we have collected to much stuff!!! Have a great day!!!
